Early Interactive Reading Software Program (EISP)
In 2012, the Utah State Legislature funded the Early Intervention Reading Software Program (“EISP”), later renamed Early Inte ractive Reading Software Program, to support the growth of K- 3 students’ literacy. Canyons School District has identified evidence-based programs that schools can choose to integrate into their targeted, reading intervention program. These programs can be utilized by students as a practice station during the ELA skill-based instruction time. Programs should be used for intervention and support and not be used during core instruction time. Students identified as below-benchmark, or well below- benchmark on Acadience Fall testing may benefit from utilizing one of the identified programs as part of a targeted intervention plan . A student can be exited from a program by meeting grade level benchmark expectations. A student exited after meeting benchmark, will not adversely affect state fidelity requirements as part of EISP (HB513). A number of these programs fall under the Utah Legislature approved funding for reading intervention software licenses for K-3 students (HB513). Annually, each school may apply for licenses through the Utah State Board of Education (USBE). In order to maintain the software licenses tied to HB513, schools are asked to follow fidelity agreements from the USBE. The following list describes each evidence-based program and the HB513 fidelity requirements of those available through USBE funding. Imagine Learning and Literacy (available for K-1 and/or 2-3 grade levels) Overview: Through Imagine Language & Literacy, students receive individualized, systematic, explicit instruction in the five key areas of literacy: phonics, phonemic awareness, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Recommended Usage of Imagine Learning and Literacy to Support English Language Learners: Imagine Language and Literacy recommends 20 minutes per day, 5 days/week throughout the school year for best results. (This recommendation is different than the minutes for HB513 fidelity) How to use Imagine Learning and Literacy Data: Use data to track student growth in critical skills areas, identify areas for intervention or reteaching, monitor oral and written academic language development through student fluency recordings and writing samples. Data can be used to inform instruction during ELA skills-based instruction.
