● Students needing IEP goals for reading in Special Education may have one or more of the following defcits in reading. ○ Phonemic Awareness ○ Decoding (phonics) skills ○ Sight Words ○ Multisyllabic word reading ○ Applying learned skills in connected text at the instructional level

○ Building fuency at the independent level ○ Applying phonics skills during writing ○ Adjusting rate, for voice and accurate reading ○ Monitoring reading for meaning ○ Utilizing fx-up strategies for accuracy and making meaning ○ Reading automatically with fuency
