the ball back to you.
Practice andPlay
Review how to push and catch a ball. ● To push the ball, students should hit the ball with their palms, fingers pointing up, and both hands together. ● To catch the ball, students should catch the ball with their hands only, palms facing upwards and pinkies towards each other. Make sure each student gets a chance to push and catch the ball to practice the skills needed for Around the World (4 square). Return to Home Base and ask the following: ● What was challenging about that activity? ● How comfortable are you with pushing and catching the ball? ● You will break students up into groups of 6-8 students and have them each at a 4 square court with one ball. ● One student per square with the extra students in line, waiting to join. ● There is a serving square(1), where the student will start the game with a serve. In this version, they will toss the ball gently to square #2, making sure it bounces in that square. ● The student in square #2 will catch the ball and toss it to square #4, which that player will allow it to bounce one time and catch it themselves. ● Student in square #4 will pass it to #3, and then that student will pass it back to#1. ● The goal is for the group of four students to pass the ball around two times (go around the world!) without dropping a catch or letting the ball bounce more than once. ● When the ball gets back to the student in square #1, they will hand in to the next student in line and move to square #2. The student in square #3 will rotate to the end of the line. Prepare students for the next activity. Around the World (4 Square)
