Practice Class Dances

I can… K: Perform locomotor skills in a dance.

1st: Combine locomotor and non-locomotor skills in a dance. 2nd: Perform a dance with correct rhythms.

Materials/ Space Needed HomeBase Large circle or rectangle shape Music and Speakers Class songs Vocabulary Locomotor: The way we move from one place to another. I use different locomotor movements like jumping and skipping when I dance.

Non-locomotor: When we move parts of our bodies. When I stretch and twist my body, I practice my non-locomotor skills.

Rhythm: Movement matched repeating sounds. I followed the rhythm of the music when we danced together.

Introduction

Begin class with a warm up procedure: ● Prepare students with daily expectations before entering the gym OR on Home Base. ● Warm up procedure may include several laps around the gym, stretching routine, or another quick, movement based activity. ● Back at Home Base, review rules/expectations of the school and

PE/Playworks with explicit examples when appropriate. ● Review any other specific reminders needed for the day.

Before releasing students for the first game, use a Sequence Touch to get them to the location you need them to be for the first activity.
