● Split the class up into two teams, having one start at one corner of the kickball field (1st base) and the other team starting on the diagonal corner (3rd base). ● On your “Go Word”, the first student in each line will start with the bean bag and run counterclockwise around the bases, touching each base, until they get back to their team. Once they get there, they will hand off the bean bag to the next person in line, who will run their own lap. ● Each runner is trying to catch the other team’s runner that’s “ahead” of them. If someone is tagged, a new round begins with the next person in line and with your “Go Word”. ● The game may end with both teams getting through their entire line up without getting tagged. Demonstrate with a student on each starting base to show which direction the students will run. Encourage students to cheer for their teammates and give “high fives” when they return to the end of their line. Ask the following: ● What would have happened if we ran in different directions? ● How were we responsible/respectful during that game? Kickball Switch ● Split students up into groups based on the amount of 4 square courts you have made. ● Like the game Switch, there will be five students playing each round, one at each corner and a student in the middle. The student in the middle will hold the kickball with both hands. ● The round begins when the player in the middle yells “Switch!”, prompting other students to find a new corner. The middle player will attempt to safely tag the others with the ball, just like in kickball. ● Students are safe once they get to a new corner and will use RSB if they arrive at the same time with someone else. ● If someone is tagged before getting to a corner or if the tagger doesn’t tag anyone, that person will go to the line and the next person to join the game will go to the middle. ● Students may only tag by holding onto the ball–if they throw it at someone, they go to the line. Demonstrate with five students to remind students of the rules of Switch and be the first person in the middle to show how to safely tag with the ball. Remind students how to safely tag.
