Elementary PE Brainbooster
● Other students are able to “unfreeze” them by giving them a high-five. ● Pause the game and pick new taggers every few minutes. Review safe tagging ● Taggers must always use “butterfly fingers”, which are soft, fluttering fingers that only tag on U.S.A. ○ Upper back ○ Shoulders ○ Arms
Practice andPlay
Review the consequences ● If a student runs out of bounds, they must “freeze”.
Change the movement (jogging, galloping, running, hopping) each round.
Debrief
Return to Home Base and ask the following: ● How did we play safely during that game? ● Where can we play this game during recess?
Prepare students for the next activity.
Dribble Practice
Show How How to Play
● Students will each get a ball (or pairs) and spread out across the gym. ● On your “Go Word”, students will practice dribbling the ball while standing still. ● Students should determine which hand is “dominant” and see how many dribbles they can get in a row. Kinder Modification ● Students will toss a ball above their head(several feet) and let the ball bounce once. They should catch it after one bounce. Review what a dribble is ● Students will spread their fingers out, trying to contact the ball with just their fingertips. ● With their knees slightly bent, students will push the ball into the ground, letting it bounce back up to the height of their waist and push on the ball again. ● If there are partners, make sure to use your “Go Word” to stop and switch them for equal turns.
Practice andPlay
Before sending students back to Home Base, have them return their basketballs to you.
Debrief
Ask the following: ● What skills did you practice during this game? ● What was challenging about this game? ● Where can you practice dribbling during recess?
