Topic 2: Music Reading & Literacy Level 1: Vocal Music

STUDENT EXPECTATIONS:

-Perform with outstanding accuracy. -Maintain correct pulse/meter/notes used throughout the performance. -Demonstration of aural skills. -Demonstrate ability to refine/improvise phrases or musical ideas. -Describe musical and structural elements in a piece of music.

Examples of Learning Intention and Success Criteria

Learning Intention: Create an authentic and expressive performance by independently interpreting music notation and applying expression markings (both pre-written and implied). Success Criteria : I know I’ll have it when,

● I can identify the pitch name of any musical note in Treble or Bass Clef. ● I can read any major key signature and identify “Do” on the staff.

● I can label the solfege syllables of a given example. ● I can identify the rhythmic name of any musical note. ● I can interpret the top and bottom numbers of a time signature. ● I can build a complete measure in any time signature. ● I can subdivide rhythms smaller than the beat in time signatures with 2, 4, or 8 at the bottom. ● I can interpret basic dynamic and expression markings within a piece of repertoire.
