KEY LANGUAGE USE

● Describe and compare characteristics of objects

Apr. 21 - May 29 21 Lessons 28days

Content Standards: Standard K.MD.1 Describe measurable attributes of objects, such as length or weight. Describe several measurable attributes of a single object. Standard K.MD.2 Directly compare two objects with a measurable attribute in common, to see which object has "more of"/"less of" the attribute, and describe the difference. For example, directly compare the length of two pencils and describe one as shorter or longer.

End of Unit Competency

By the end of Topic 14, students will be able to explain how objects can be described and compared by length, height, capacity, and weight.

Language Functions and Features: ● Mathematical terms ( longer, shorter, measure, attributes ) ● Visuals ( cubes ) to support approach, solution, and/or extract information ● Past tense doing verbs ( compared ) to recount steps ● Declarative statements to state conclusion ( The pencil in longer than the string ) ● Conjunctions ( if/then ), i.e. If the blue straw is the shorter then red straw is longer
