Topic 13 Analyze, Compare, and Create Shapes
FLEXIBLE PACING STANDARDS
REPORTING STANDARDS
KEY LANGUAGE USE
● Identify and compare 2-D and 3-D shapes ● Build and draw shapes
Standard of Mathematical Practice #1: Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them.
Topics 12-14
Explain
Apr. 21 - May 29 21 Lessons 28days
Content Standards: Standard K.G.4 Analyze, compare, and sort two- and three dimensional shapes and objects, in different sizes and orientations, using informal language to describe their similarities, differences, and other attributes (for example, color, size, shape, number of sides).
Standard K.G.5 Model and create shapes from components such as sticks and clay balls.
Standard K.G.6 Compose simple shapes to form larger shapes. For example, “Can you join these two triangles with full sides touching to make a rectangle?”
End of Unit Competency
By the end of Topic 13, students will be able to explain how solid fgures can be named, described, compared, and composed.
Language Functions and Features: ● Mathematical terms ( roll, slide, stack, build, combine, identify, analyze, compare ) ● Visuals ( shapes ) to support approach, solution, and/or extract information ● Declarative statements to state conclusion ( When you join two triangles you can create a rectangle. )
