Tools used to introduce new content and tasks to help students learn about the topic: Venn diagrams to compare and contrast information; flow charts to illustrate processes; organizational charts to illustrate hierarchies; outlines that represent content; mnemonics to assist recall; statements to situate the task or content; rubrics that

Connect new content to previous knowledge. Provide word banks and/or sentence frames. Make it user friendly. Model how to use the advanced organizer. Provide templates and examples for students to use in future learning activities.

Teacher creates a flow chart for students to complete as they are learning about the water cycle. A word bank is provided for students, and boxes are provided for students to draw pictures of each step in the cycle.
