To prepare students for on-demand writing, CFAs can simulate these conditions by presenting time-bound tasks that emphasize spontaneous composition. Teachers might use prompts aligned to core genres (e.g., argumentative, informative, or narrative) and give students 45–60 minutes to complete their response without prior discussion or planning. Rubrics should focus on key writing traits under pressure—such as clarity of purpose, organization, and development of ideas. Instructionally, teachers can use CFA results to identify areas where students need practice, such as thesis development under time constraints or maintaining focus in a single draft. Follow-up mini-lessons can target these skills. Additionally, students benefit from metacognitive reflection on their on-demand writing—reviewing what strategies worked, where they struggled, and how they can improve next time.
