Learning Intentions and Success Criteria Examples Learning Intention: I am learning to determine multiple themes/main ideas of a text, determine how details build upon each other and relate to other texts, and write an objective summary/synthesis. Success Criteria: I know I’ll have it when, ● I can identify multiple themes or main ideas in a text from diverse cultures. ● I can explain how specifc details develop over the course of the text and how they build upon each other or relate to other texts. ● I can explain how specifc details shape or refne the central idea/theme or how the details relate to the main idea. ● I can summarize a text objectively or write a synthesis of the texts, including textual evidence.
Learning Progression Example
1. Identify the main ideas/themes in two or more texts. 2. Identify specifc details in the text related to the main ideas/themes. 3. Explain how these specifc details build upon each other and develop over the course of the text.
4. Explain how these specifc details relate to the main idea of the text. 5. Explain how these details connect to the main idea in other texts.
