WELCOME & ACTIVATE BACKGROUND KNOWLEDGE Say: I’m going to show you a picture. We are going to examine it closely for 1 minute. Your job is to think about “What is happening in this picture?” After two minutes we will Think-Pair-Share with a partner what you wonder and notice. While we look closely at the picture I want our voice level to be zero. Hold your body like Whole Body Listening. Show the image “Idea Thief” and set a timer so students know how long to focus. Say: What is happening in this picture? Your answer might sound like “I think ____________ because _________. Or “I notice ___________________.” and even be a wonder like “The picture makes me wonder _____________.” Greet students and welcome them to the library.
