Optional Step 4: PIE worksheets & pencils If time allows: Transition students to tables, pass out grade level PIE worksheet and pencils. Inform students to wait patiently for further directions. Grade 1 Say: Our last learning activity is your chance to test your knowledge of the creator's purpose. On this worksheet are short media messages. You need to identify the purpose of the message. We will do some as a group, you will work together in table groups, and the last few you will do all by yourself. A completed worksheet is your ticket to borrow books today!

Scaffold for students using I Do, We Do, Y’All Do, and You Do. First grade may need you to read every message out loud and then they can independently identify the purpose.

Grade 2 Say: We are going to watch a short video, (videos are media remember!) and then we will practice identifying the purpose of the message together. After our practice, we will watch another video and it will be your job to identify the purpose on your own.

Review the worksheet and instructions so that students know how to use the worksheet.
