Entertain - to keep people amused, interested, or enjoying themselves

Fact - a statement that is true and can be proven

Opinion - A belief or judgment that expresses how someone feels or thinks about something. Opinions are personal and cannot be proven true or false.

Say: We read a lot of books in the library, by many different authors. Why do you think authors write books?

Optional: Second grade students can write their thinking on scrap paper before sharing.

Say: This was a great brainstorming session! The reason author’s write a text is called the author’s purpose. When we talk about media, we call it the creator’s purpose because not all media is just words. Say it with me…creator’s purpose. Usually, authors and creators have one to three purposes in their messages. They might want to inform us, persuade us, or entertain us.
