CROSS-CURRICULAR INTEGRATIONS USBE Social Studies 4.1.a Students can explain how humans meet their needs in many ways. Identify the difference between basic wants and needs. WELCOME & ACTIVATE BACKGROUND KNOWLEDGE Greet students warmly at the library door. Follow opening procedures to prepare students for learning. Pair students. Instruct them that you will be asking a discussion question and their job is to quietly share their answer with their partner. Say: When I ask the question, whisper to your partner your answer, take turns sharing, and when you are both finished stop talking and touch your finger to your nose. Ready? What is something you have been wanting? Maybe for your birthday, for a holiday gift, or just because?

Remind the class of the instructions as they discuss. Have partners share answers to the whole group.
