WELCOME & ACTIVATE BACKGROUND KNOWLEDGE Greet students. Follow opening procedures to prepare students for learning.

Activate background knowledge of their experience with the words “screen time”. Use a poster, whiteboard, or display the words “screen time.” Read the letters of the word, pointing to each one, and then read the words.

Ask: What is screen time?

Allow students think and answer time. Students will most likely be able to define screen time with examples. Elicit specific examples and guide discussion to recognize that screen time refers to all our experiences with technology, particularly technology with screens. OBJECTIVE Remind students how to do whole body listening while you are instructing. Display and read objective. Say: Today we are learning to be mindful of our screen time so that we can be safe and responsible with technology. You will know you’ve got it when you can explain why less screen time is good for you. We will explore what happens when we have too much screen time and then what happens when we unplug from technology with a story.
