WELCOME & ACTIVATE BACKGROUND KNOWLEDGE Greet students warmly at the library door. Follow opening procedures to prepare students for learning. Display Staying Safe Online Comic. Without reading the caption, lead students through discussions of the comic using Visual Thinking strategies. Allow students time to think and respond between each question.

OBJECTIVE Say: Because the internet is a connection of millions of computers, it’s easy to think you know someone online and be completely wrong about who they are in real life. It’s important to be very cautious. What does cautious mean? [Allow response]. Like in the comic, we all interact with people and share information online. It is our job to make safe choices when we do this. We need to be cautious who we talk to and cautious about what we share. Your trusted adults will also help you make those choices. Our book today helps us understand the consequences of safe and unsafe online choices.
