Unit 3
Digital Citizenship
PACING 4 weeks NOTE TO INSTRUCTOR Digital Citizenship refers to the responsible ways we use technology to interact with each other and society in general. Good Digital Citizenship should include empathy, integrity, and safety. We teach students how to be information seekers in the library. Increasingly, the search for information utilizes technology. It is our responsibility, in partnership with teachers and parents, to teach students how to be safe and treat others well while accessing online databases and resources in the library, the classroom, or at home. Digital Citizenship topics are present in the Media Literacy and Information and Research strands of the USBE Library Media K-5 Standards. This unit prepares students to behave appropriately online at home, at school, and in future library learning. KEY STANDARD(S) 14.1: Understand and practice safe and responsible use of information and technology. 14.2: Identify issues with and consequences of misusing media. END OF UNIT COMPETENCY Students will demonstrate digital citizenship by asking permission to go online, being cautious about interacting with others online, and setting limits on their own technology use.
