WELCOME & ACTIVATE BACKGROUND KNOWLEDGE

Greet students and welcome them back to the library.

Say: We are going to look back at our reading experiences this year and share our favorites with our friends.

Share library statistics for the year ● How many books were circulated this school year ● Top 10 checked out books in your school ● Your top 5 books you read this year (use as an opportunity to book talk books students will be excited to read this summer) OBJECTIVE Say: It has been a great year for reading in our library community. Today we are learning and reflecting on those reading experiences. Display objective or the compelling question and read it outloud. DIRECT INSTRUCTION & PRACTICE Step 1: Read Aloud Read one book about how libraries and books are for everyone. Use best read aloud practices.

Step 2: Student Discussion Whole or group discussion:

Invite students to reflect on their own reading. Use Think-Pair-Share. ● What were the best books they read? Why? ● What was a book they didn’t enjoy? Why?

● What is something they learned from a library book this year? ● What is something they would like to learn more about?
