Case Study 3: Maya’s Online Choices

Story: During a class project, Maya joins a group video chat. One classmate rolls their eyes when she talks and later sends a message saying, “You’re really slow at this.” Maya feels hurt but doesn’t say anything back. She decides to work harder and be extra helpful during the project. After class, she tells her teacher what happened. Later that week, Maya sends a class-wide message: “If anyone needs help with their project, let me know!”

Discussion Questions:

• What choices did Maya make that helped keep things positive? • Was there anything she should have done sooner or differently? • How can you be a good classmate online?

His cousin sees it while they’re playing and uses it to log in and mess around with his scores. Later, Alex realizes what happened and changes his password to something harder. He tells his mom what happened and asks her to help him write it down in a safer place.

Discussion Questions:

• What did Alex do well in this situation? • What could he have done differently to protect his account? • Why is it important to be careful with your passwords?
