WELCOME & ACTIVATE BACKGROUND KNOWLEDGE Greet students. Follow opening procedures to prepare students for learning.
Show students a small paper chain. Say: What is this? What do you notice? [Allow responses] Does anyone know how to make a paper chain? [Allow responses and then show yourself adding a link] The chain grows when we connect another piece of paper to it. Connections make the chain grow. Connections while we are reading make our understanding and learning grow. We are going to learn and practice how to connect one book to another book today. This is called a text-to-text connection.
OBJECTIVE Display objectives.
