Setting - where and when a story or event takes place Plot - the events that happen at the beginning, middle, and end of the story Retell - tell again, repeat the story in your own words Text - the group of words that share information or story Pattern - something that repeats in a determined sequence

Or any two tellings of a fairytale/folktale

WELCOME & ACTIVATE BACKGROUND KNOWLEDGE Greet students. Follow opening procedures to prepare students for learning.

Lead students through GoNoodle’s “Banana Banana Meatball” song and dance. Settle students again.

Say: That song teaches us about patterns. A pattern is something that repeats. Like banana, banana, meatball - banana, banana…. (students can fill in the pattern.) Most stories follow patterns too! Knowing the pattern can help us comprehend a story and tell it again, or retell. [Display vocabulary word comprehend, retell] Comprehend means to understand and Retell means to tell again.
