Gail was sleeping a bit late. And she was dreaming. Gail dreamt she had a real yellow puppy. "Gail!" called Mom. "Wake up, Sleepy!" Gail sat up on her pillow. Sun streamed in her window. "You know what day it is, right?" asked Mom. Gail jumped to her feet. "Yes, it's my birthday! Yippee!" "Let's get this day going!" said Mom. Gail cleaned her face, fixed her braids, and then dressed in green jeans and gray sneakers. In the kitchen, Mom gave Gail a bowl filled with peaches and cream! Then Gail had toast. When Gail finished eating, Mom said, "Grab your coat. We will hike up the road to the train. We'll meet Granny in the city." "Granny!" called Gail. That was a birthday treat. Gail and Mom found seats on the train. They rode to Main Street by Granny's. "Happy birthday, Gail!" exclaimed Granny. Granny gave Gail a squeeze. Then Granny gave Gail a birthday gift. It was a stuffed yellow dog. It was almost like the dog in Gail's dream, except it was not real. "Thanks, Granny!" Gail said.
