Wonders TE pg T41 Compare texts: compare what students learned about families from both texts emphasizing the traditions present in both. Social Studies Standard 2.1.4: Explain the purpose and signifcance of local, state, and national celebrations, cultural events, and traditions. Teachers may also consider locating where families came from in texts. Wonders TE pg T280 Venn Diagram compare and contrast “Life Now and Long Ago” and discuss how the community has changed over time based on text evidence and student background knowledge. Social Studies Standard 2.1.2: Use primary sources to identify how the community has changed or remained the same over time and make inferences about the reasons why. Wonders TE pg T423 “Lighting the Way” contains timelines and primary source material about the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island and the history of these landmarks.
