DLI 5th Grade Guide
5th Grade Math Scope & Sequence
End of Unit Competency
By the end of Topic 6 students will be able to explain common procedures for estimating and fnding quotients involving decimals.
Language Functions & Features Describe data and/or steps to solve problems using: ● Mathematical terms ( place value, compatible numbers, quotient, estimate, reasonableness ) ● Observations ( notice, it appears, looks like ) and comparative language ( different from, similar to, the same ) to share results ( My estimate is reasonable because the exact quotient… ) ● Visuals ( bar diagrams, tables, manipulatives ) to support approach, solution and/or extract information Generalize commonalities and differences across cases using: ● Patterns or rules to justify a conclusion ( if/then, when the decimal point moves ) ● Declarative statements to present generalizable processes ( The model represents the division equation because… )
SKILLS
VOCABULARY
MANIPULATIVES
● Number sense ● Divide with decimals
● Bills and coins ● Place-value blocks
