By the end of Topic 8 students will be able to explain ways to name the same part of a whole and how to compare fractions with unlike numerators and denominators. Language Functions & Features Describe data and/or steps to solve problems using: ● Visuals ( number line, chart ) to support approach and/or solution ● Mathematical terms ( fraction, equivalent, numerator, area models, benchmark fractions ) ● Observations ( notice, it appears, looks like ) and comparative language ( less than, more than, equal to ) to share results ( ¼ is less than ⅔ because… )
