End of Unit Competency
By the end of Topic 4 students will be able to describe and model subtraction facts to 20 using strategies.
Language Functions and Features: Describe data and/or steps to solve problems using:
● Mathematical terms ( fact family, subtract, add, strategy, related facts ) ● Visuals ( pictures, number lines, ten frames ) to support approach, solution, and/or extract information ● Connectors to order steps ( frst, next, then, fnally ) and indicate reasons ( because, so, that means, as a result ) ● Declarative statements to state conclusion ( Addition and subtraction are related because…) ● Conditional clauses ( if, then ) to extend conjecture (eg . If3+5=8,then8-5=3 )
