By the end of Unit 2, students will be able to: ● demonstrate an understanding of the meaning of a logarithm by placing them on a number line ● identify key features of exponential and logarithmic functions ○ Domain, range, inverse, increasing, decreasing, asymptote, horizontal, vertical ● use the properties of logarithmic and exponents to solve logarithmic problems ● solve compound interest and continuous growth problems in context ● apply the rules of transformations to the graphs of logarithms
Honors: ● write an exponential function in its logarithmic form ● write a logarithmic function in its exponential form ● solve exponential and logarithmic equations SCAFFOLDING IN ACTION
● Lesson 2.1: Launch - think aloud with examples, teacher modeling, Explore - chunk the task by pausing and refecting after a set of problems with the students ● Lesson 2.3: Launch - use graphing calculator or graphing technology to test out equivalent equations, Explore - read aloud after problems 8 - 10, use contextual visuals, Discuss - Think-Pair-Share ● Lesson 2.4: Explore - provide students with graphic organizer to work on Explore problems with extra space and tables, Discuss - Think-Pair-Share ● Lesson 2.5: Explore - use calculators when working on the table and graphs, Discuss - Think-Pair-Share ● Lesson 2.6: Launch - provide a graphic organizer to record work in a table ● Lesson 2.7: Launch - read aloud “Logs Go Viral”, use contextual visuals, Discuss - use the “layered book organizer”
