where have they heard of other individuals having one to many chromosomes - guide them to Down Syndrome (Trisomy 21). Explain the importance of receiving 50% of your genes from your Mom and 50% from your Dad. Then have students read about the importance of homologous chromosomes.

Next - Have students perform SQ3R on Meiosis I & II (pg 233 teaches edition)

Next have students in groups of 8. Have them take off their shoes. There shoes will represent the chromosomes. Have them go through the steps of Meiosis I & II. Have students demonstrate the Cause & Effect of topics : Crossing Over, Law of Independent Assortment, Genetic Variation. Have students look at Figure 20 on pg 239. Hand out a noteguide of a karyotype and go through with them the different aspects of the organized picture of chromosomes.

Next have the revisit their prior knowledge of down syndrome.
