BHS 9th Grade ELA

Term Definition Quantile Score A Quantile score represents a student’s math ability level as measured by the Math Inventory (MI) Reading Curriculum-Based Measurement (R-CBM) also known as Oral Reading Fluency (ORF) and CBM-Read Aloud, is a one-minute measure that results in two primary numerical scores: number of words read correctly per minute (or correct words per minute, CWPM), and percentage of correctly read words (accuracy rate). This measure is highly correlated with reading comprehension in elementary school but outlives its usefulness once students read at the same rate at which they speak. Maze has been identified as a more appropriate CBM once students are reading grade-level texts at rates above 130 words read correctly per minute, with greater than 97% accuracy Realize Platform The Realize platform is the digital component of enVison 2.0 and Reading Street that contains interactives, lesson planning, ancillary materials, and data. Reliability is the degree to which a measure is free of error. All tests contain error resulting from characteristics of the test (such as poorly designed questions), characteristics of the test taker (bad day, lack of sleep, misreading questions, anxiety, and lack of effort), and characteristics of the environment (distracting noises, room temperature, and distracting odors) Reading Inventory (RI) (formerly Scholastic Reading Inventory) is a computer administered reading test that measures inferential and literal reading comprehension skills. Scores are reported in a numeric Lexile scores. Percentile ranks are also available. RI was designed primarily to match students with books of an appropriate level of difficulty. It is a particularly good assessment for identifying advanced readers. It has a disadvantage of not being as sensitive to growth as are CBM measures, of being subject to student sloughing, and having limited reliability if administered a few number of times The Readiness, Improvement, Success, Empowerment (RISE) assessment is Utah’s multistage, computer adaptive, criterion referenced assessment system that includes summative tests for English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, and Writing R-CBM Reliability RI RISE Restorative Practices (RP) in schools are ways of pro-actively developing relationships and community, as well as repairing relationships and community when harm is done Responsive Services Department: Department of Responsive Services includes prevention, intervention, and postvention services for students and families. District and school professionals provide resources for administrators, teachers, families, and students, especially those who are experiencing challenges that create barriers to student wellness and achievement. These services may include: individual assessment, behavioral and health support, counseling, crisis management, mediation, and restorative justice. Behavioral, health, and safety supports are a vital part of a comprehensive school program's success RSD economically disadvantaged, culturally and linguistically diverse, homeless, migrants or refugees or Native American Supporting Advanced Learners Towards Achievement (SALTA) is Canyons’ magnet program for gifted and talented students SALTA RP SAA
