School Connect Curriculum
School Connect is the curriculum used in Canyons School District from grades 9-12 to teach social emotional learning. This is a classroom-based curriculum meant to be taught by teachers in order to “to improve high school students’ social, emotional, and academic skills and strengthen relationships among students and between students and teachers.” ( School Connect website, https://school-connect.net/sel-curriculum). These skills are meant to be directly taught through the School Connect lessons, but referred to and reinforced throughout the school day in all classes. Module 1: Creating a Supportive Learning Environment ● Module 2: Developing Self-Awareness and Self-Management ● Module 3: Building Relationships and Solving Conflicts ● Module 4: Preparing for College and the Workforce (recommended for seniors or juniors) The School Connect curriculum includes a curriculum manual for each module. It is designed so that each student receives all four modules during their entire high school career, rather than all four modules in a single year. Each high school’s administrative and counseling teams will assist teachers with the planned scope and sequence of lessons. There are four modules in School Connect : ● There are also digital teaching resources available to assist teachers in planning and delivering the lessons to students. Teachers will need to work with their administrative and counseling teams to obtain the login information for the School Connect resources. All teaching materials can be found at: https://portal.school-connect.net/iportal/. The expectation for the coming year is that these lessons will be part of an advisory period in all high schools. Each high school’s administrative and counseling teams will have more specific details on how lessons will be structured and taught based on the context of the school’s student body.
