● I can describe the components of an ecosystem, and how matter cycles through them.

● Students are introduced to the concept of an ecosystem through a text, Ecosystem Reading. Students should read the text and and use a graphic organizer to take notes critical components of an ecosystem. ● Next, have students look at the Yellowstone Wilderness Area ecosystem. Have students list out the critical components of the Ecosystem. Have them work with a partner to list everything they can think of that is in the ecosystem. ● Teach students the terms Biotic & Abiotic. Ask them to think through all the critical components of the yellowstone wilderness. Have them sort their words into 2 categories, either Biotic or Abiotic. ● Show students the Coral Reef, Desert & Rainforest Ecosystem pictures. Either in a slide show, or print out the pictures in color and have them in
