6th Grade Science Guide

Unit 4 6.3 Weather & Climate 3 Dimensions & Progressions

● Emphasis of this lesson - we couldn’t exist on Earth without the Greenhouse effect. All the cycles on Earth, including hydrologic cycle are made possible by the Greenhouse Effect. ● Students create a model of the Greenhouse Effect. ● Students Close read an article about Greenhouse gasses, and how it makes life on Earth possible. Students participate in a lab where they create their own “greenhouse” effect and monitor how greenhouse gasses lead to temperature increase.

● I can describe factors that contribute to the Greenhouse Effect

● Lesson Plan

Activity: How the Earth Traps Heat Reading & Lab

Objective

Overview

Materials

● How Earth’s Atmosphere TrapsHeat ● lab

● I understand how the greenhouse effect allows life on Earth to exist. ● I understand that trapping too many greenhouse gasses can lead to temperature increases.

Multiple Choice Assessment: 6.3.4 Formative Assessment

Phenomena Assessment: Weather Padtterns are Different Across the Country

Objective

Overview

Materials

● I can use evidence from the unit to describe why there are different weather patterns occurring across the country. ● I can use terms like Jet

● Students write a CER to explain how weather is changed by warm and cold ocean temperatures that lead to fronts through the jet stream creating weather patterns.

● Google Slide Presentation ● CER resources
