Skill Building

Graphic Organizer: Use Teaching Tool 25 (Frayer Model) to have students display information about the Associative, Commutative and Identity Properties of Addition. Students would complete a graphic organizer for each property for use throughout the Unit. A Frayer Model Anchor Chart for each property that the teacher creates as the class discusses each property would also be displayed for reference.

Extension

Open Middle: Subtracting Multi-Digit Numbers. When students have correctly solved the problem, challenge students to create a similar problem on their own and trade with a partner to solve.
