Multi-Modal Response : Precision partner students to complete the problem solving item number 11 in lesson 5-4 (pg 184). Read the hint and encourage each pair to draw a picture or create a model to represent the word problem possibly using the available counters. Combine pairs to form small groups and have pairs take turns explaining their representations to one another and justifying their solution. Then ask students to write about their representation using the sentence frames: “One way to solve the problem is ___. Another way to solve the problem is ___.” Additional Practice - Baseball League (Performance Task - TE 192B) The Baseball League problem is challenging as written but would be more challenging without all of the scaffolds. When printing for students, eliminate all the scaffolds on the page and only print the problem at the top and with the bucket of baseballs and let them work through the problem with a partner justifying their thinking using mathematical representations such as tables, pictures, equations, etc.
