Sentence Starters: As a class, read the Lesson 5-5 Solve & Share problem. Discuss with students the pond animals identifed in the story problem and listed in the picture graph. Have them share how they would have voted if they had taken part in the survey. Then have them consider how they can make the picture graph and write what they notice about the data in the graph. After the class has fnished making the graph, provide sentence starters like the following for further class discussion about what they notice:
