12th grade ELA

ELA Core Standards Overview To measure student growth in argument writing, the three (3) power standards will be assessed and reported for each benchmark. These standards were chosen because of their cohesion and function as essential elements of the Senior Capstone fnal project. ( R ) Standard 1 Cite strong and thorough textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inference drawn from the text, including determining where the text leaves matters uncertain.

( W ) Standard 1a

Introduce precise, knowledgeable claim(s), establish the signifcance of the claim(s), distinguish the claim(s) from alternate or opposing claims, and create an organization that logically sequences claim(s), counterclaims, reasons, and evidence.

( W ) Standard 1c Use words, phrases, and clauses as well as varied syntax to link the major sections of the text, create cohesion, and clarify the relationships between claim(s) and reasons, between reasons and evidence, and between claim(s) and counterclaims. *For a complete list of the standards that will be assessed in the Senior Capstone research paper, see: Senior Capstone Project.
