REPORTING STANDARDS

KEY LANGUAGE USE

● Measure and order objects based on length

Standard of Mathematical Practice #5: Use appropriate tools strategically. Content Standards: Standard 1.MD.1 Order three objects by length; compare the lengths of two objects indirectly by using a third object. Standard 1.MD.2 Express the length of an object as a whole number of length units, by laying multiple copies of a shorter object (the length unit) end to end; understand that the length measurement of an object is the number of same-size length units that span it with no gaps or overlaps. Limit to contexts where the object being measured is spanned by a whole number of length units with no gaps or overlaps.

End of Unit Competency

By the end of Topic 12 students will be able to tell how you compare two objects to measure. Language Functions and Features: Describe data and/or steps to solve problems using: ● Mathematical terms ( length, longer, longest, shorter, shortest, measure ) ● Visuals ( cubes ) to support approach, solution, and/or extract information ● Past tense doing verbs ( used, counted ) to recount steps ● Declarative statements to state conclusion ( The bracelet is curved ) ● Conjunctions ( if/then ), i.e. If the blue straw is the shortest then all the others are longer Evaluate others’ arguments using:
